WILLIAM J. HUNT, ESQ.

Mr. Hunt founded the firm in August of 1996, following the dissolution of his prior firm, DeMaria Ellis Hunt & Friedman.  Mr. Hunt was a partner at the DeMaria firm  for eight years, having joined the firm immediately upon leaving his position as a United States Magistrate for the District of New Jersey.  Mr. Hunt served as a United States Magistrate for eight years.  During such time he presided over more than 200 jury and non-jury trials and served the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit as a special master.  Mr. Hunt was also the Equal Employment Opportunity Officer for the United States District Court from 1974 through 1981.  Prior to his appointment to the bench, Mr. Hunt served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, where he prosecuted actions for such agencies as FDA, DEA HUD and IRS.  He received Special Commendation from the Attorney General of the United States in 1973.

Mr. Hunt has a wealth of experience in the defense of a variety of civil actions in both federal and state courts, and in dealing with corporate and individual clients on a negotiation, transactional and advisory basis.  Mr. Hunt has long served as general counsel to public utilities; special counsel to public entities; panel trustee for the United States Department of Justice for both Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases in the District of New Jersey; special master, arbitrator and mediator to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey; mediator to the New Jersey State Courts; lecturer for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education; and instructor to police agencies regarding federal civil rights statutes.  Mr. Hunt's reputation as a legal professional is well known throughout the State of New Jersey.

Mr. Hunt received his bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University in 1958, and his juris doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law in  1970.  Mr. Hunt is admitted to the bars of the State of New Jersey, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
